Plans for a mobile/responsive site

Post by Merri »

Just to let you know that I've started to work on a generic MyBB theme that looks exactly like the current one on desktop, but will also work nice on other situatation such as phone, tablet or even print. Once that theme is complete I can make a custom variation of it for Maaya's as well. I don't know yet how long it'll take for me to get that far but atleast this is what I've started to work on.

Just so you know how big the project is:
  • 600 template files.
  • 130 of those are "full page" templates that contain the whole main structure of a page.
  • I have to touch everything on those files.
  • Once a part is rewritten I can go ahead and give it a style.
  • And finally all the various appearances can get their own styles.
I know one guy has been working on his own project for over a year, but I do whatever I can to speed up the progress. Unfortunatenaly I have other projects to take care of as well so that limits my progress. But in the other hand these days I'm able to give attention better to these projects thanks to the job I landed earlier this year :) Will be doing responsive stuff there as well, can give all my focus on it so good stuff!

Haha, that's a very nice consideration! I have tried to use the board on my iphone before and it was pretty small ^^;;

Responsive is hype.
+ Maaya's should be hype.

=> Maaya's should be responsive.

Go for it Merri !

I just upgraded my phone, so.. when is this project going to start? Need any help?

try strolling around for responsive plugins, so can still use the database structure. Maybe using like

m.maayas.net (mobile ver)

I'm not sure if this helps, but there are some trial of this mobile forum here

I did check using a simulator, the fonts are rather too big on their test mobile forum website.. (I'm a minimalist type when comes to website designs)

Breaking news! We finally have a new, mobile friendly forum/chat!

https://muut.com/maaya-sakamoto

I make this new forum accessible at http://maayas.net/ as soon as I have time to do it. It is bad enough I used time at work to setup the forum... :)

If you folks like it enough I'll make this current forum an archive since I can't move the posts and accounts from this forum to the new system.

You can create a new account at Muut (avatar = Gravatar) or login with Facebook (avatar = profile pic) or Google+ (avatar = profile pic).

I really don't like the idea of relying on a third party for the forum...

mm a global redesign to add in the phone responsive layout, but haven't explored that personally.. so I cant discuss much about that. what I know is that phpbb is able to do anything, if spent enough time tinkering.

Like it can auto adjust the layout if we are using a phone, without much hassle. everything else is the same. well just keep this idea on the shelf until something comes up..

we're in no rush right..

I just did a google, and found this.
But just in case to decrease the risk, may want to use a demo first since its a paid ($15) theme.

Metro — A Responsive Theme for phpBB3

Screenshots (when viewed in the phone)

btw, anyone like geometrical art for the background?
My elder brother was so crazy about this, it looks nice and modern. Something like Nekoze cover. (but nekoze was mostly influence by Mucha Alponse)
