Maaya in Legally Blonde Dub/Maaya's Dubbing Work in General

Post by harmonium »

So ever since I found out Maaya played Elle Woods in the Japanese dub of "Legally Blonde", I've been dying to see it. Unfortunately, two dubs were made, and the version featuring Maaya is not the one on the Japanese DVD release (Matsumoto Rica plays Elle instead). It looks like the version Maaya did is aired only on television.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any way I could see this dub (other than the obvious way of going to Japan and catching it on T.V. XD). The full film would be great, but I'd be happy with a video clip, or an audio clip. Has anyone seen it? I'd love to hear your impressions.

And while I'm on the topic of Maaya dubs, has anyone seen any? I haven't yet, but I plan to buy the first three "Star Wars" and "Garden State" soon. Maybe "Four Feathers" as well.

The basic question is: have you tried YouTube? I don't know which would be good keywords, but with a good luck someone has posted a clip of the Maaya featured version.

Four feathers with Maaya sounds good. But the dialogue in Star wars 1 and 2 is so diabolically bad even as a fan I would rather turn down the volume. I doubt even Maaya can change that.

Yeah, I tried various combinations in English and Japanese, and no luck so far. I check back every once in a while to see if it's been added. I also tried the "Legally Blonde" Japanese HP; there are some trailers up there, but they're subtitled, not dubbed.

Ha ha, yeah, it is bad, especially the dialogue in the love scenes between Anikin and Padme. But for some reason, I have a soft spot for these films. It's probably due to Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman.

It's an American movie starring Reese Witherspoon. Maaya dubbed Reese's lines. There's a synopsis of the film <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legally_Blonde">here</a>, if you're interested.

Kirei; how about Maaya as a redhead? She wore that red wig in Nikopotch.

Harmonium; If you like star wars 1 and 2 have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7arl-cYDRn0
Except for Maul's lightsaber duel this is the part of Phantom Menace I like the most.
I wonder if while reading Amidala's lines Maaya ever though "this is so cheezy". She was talking about gettting hit on once (some guy asked her out for coffee) and I think "kohii o nomimasenka" is a better pickup line than Anakin's dialogue.

Kaimugen: I've seen it before; I loved that song when it came out, it was on MuchMusic all the time. It's one of my favourite Weird Al songs. (His latest album was awesome, by the way, haha.)

Maaya must have thought the dialogue was painfully cheesy. Anakin's pick-up lines in "Phantom Menace" are pretty bad, but since he's a 9-year-old, it's sort of forgiveable. Maybe. Either way, I think 9-year-old Anakin played by Jake Lloyd is better than 19-year-old Anakin played by Hayden Christensen. The dialogue got worse in "Attack of the Clones", too .... Asking a girl out for coffee is definitely better than any of Anakin's 'romantic' lines.

Harmonium, have you had any luck finding discs? I had a look at cdjapan, they had the star wars stuff with japanese dialogue but they are out of print now. Didn't see any of the other stuff though.

JankoRaven, I pity the guy who had to dub Anakin's lines.

Kaimugen: I've found the discs at HMV Japan, YesAsia, and Amazon.co.jp. I had to use the Japanese titles at YesAsia to find Garden State and Four Feathers.

Sometimes it's better to have the Japanese titles to search with, so I'll put them here for reference. The Star Wars titles weren't changed at all, just translated into Japanese, but Garden State and Four Feathers are titled differently.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace: スター・ウォーズ エピソードI ファントム・メナス (Star Wars Episode I fantamu menasu)
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones スター・ウォーズ エピソードII クローンの攻撃 (Star Wars Episode II Kuroon no Kougeki)
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith: スター・ウォーズ エピソードIII シスの復習 (Star Wars Episode II Shisu no Fukushuu)
Garden State: 終わりで始まりの4日間 (Owari de Hajimari no Yokkakan) (Four Days of the End and the Beginning)
Four Feathers: サハラに舞う羽根 (Sahara ni Mau Hane) (Feathers Dancing in the Sahara)

HMV

<a href="http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/24942">Attack of the Clones</a>
<a href="http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/1452840">Revenge of the Sith</a>
<a href="http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/1404692">Garden State</a>
<a href="http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/1343184">Four Feathers</a>

Amazon Japan

<a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%B9%E3%82 ... 0">Revenge of the Sith</a>
<a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E7%B5%82%E3%82 ... -1">Garden State</a>
I found three copies of Four Feathers, all at varying prices; they all seem to have the exact same content; but here they are, in order from most expensive to least: <a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%B5%E3%83 ... -3">(1)</a> <a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%B5%E3%83 ... -4">(2)</a>, <a href="http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%B5%E3%83 ... -5">(3)</a>

YesAsia

<a href="http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/c ... 7484/">The Phantom Menace</a>
<a href="http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/c ... 2/">Attack of the Clones</a>
<a href="http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/c ... /">Revenge of the Sith</a>
I found two copies of Garden State here; they're both the same, but this <a href="http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/c ... >one</a>'s cheaper and this <a href="http://us.yesasia.com/jp/PrdDept.aspx/c ... >one</a>'s more expensive.
I found those three copies of Four Feathers here too. Most expensive to least expensive: <a href="http://us.yesasia.com/jp/PrdDept.aspx/c ... 4/">(1)</a>, <a href="http://us.yesasia.com/jp/PrdDept.aspx/c ... 8/">(2)</a>, <a href="http://us.yesasia.com/jp/PrdDept.aspx/c ... 3/">(3)</a>

And there's always Y!HJ, too.

I try to avoid amazon.jp unless neccessary because they will only ship by express. Sometimes the shipping cost more than my order.

Yeah, Amazon.co.jp is pretty pricy on shipping; I only use them for things that the other stores I use can't get. YesAsia is my favourite price-wise (although I've gotten a few cracked CDs from them; my last order went well, though).
