From the back of the concert pamphlet!! There's going to be a new essay collection written by Maaya this year titled 'from everywhere'. It's a record of her trip around Europe last year.

Discuss :neko:

edit: and, I call it. :P

EDIT:

Cover and release date out:

The book will be released in February 2011, almost a year after announcing it!

That was a rather furtive way to announce it, wasn't it? All the focus has been on the concert and the best-hits album, and you flip to the back cover to see, "Oh by the way, Maaya's putting out another essay collection." Reading that really made my day. Totally unexpected, too -- I don't think it's been talked about anywhere else, even on Vitamin M and her recent radio interviews.

I have to agree with deltafour ;P
But I'm excited to read what she has in store next. Her previous essay collection was an interesting read considering how we don't know much about her private life. Her first love one was simply bittersweet~

@dilly: Calling it, meaning you'll translate it once it releases? xD
I can't read Japanese at all so much appreciation if you can♥

Ha,ha I was calling it as in 'I mentioned on another thread I'd like another essay collection' :) when we first found out there was more than one thing announced for Maaya's 15th anniversary. I think I'll leave the new one to deltafour XD I have enough left of 'I.D' to translate.

@deltafour: it was a shock to me too, haha. I was looking at the back cover with half an eye, 'oh those are nice photos...oh...from everwhere, that's the lyrics to everywhere? wait. no. blurb. OMG OMGOMGOMG'. It really slipped under the raydar.

Based on the most recent Vitamin M, she's still in the middle of writing essays for the new book. Knowing how Maaya is with deadlines, it may not be out until late this year. I suppose the best part is that Kodansha is publishing it, which makes me think it'll be more widely available than the last one.

Slightly off-topic, but I also didn't know until I read the concert pamphlet that Maaya has been writing a monthly essay column for Newtype since the April 2008 issue. I'm trying to hunt down the scans so I can add them to the end of my Things To Translate queue.

@deltafour: Would you know if she's still writing or when this column ended? I wouldn't mind purchasing an issue or two if I can find old (fairly affordable) copies lying around online. Of course, I'll scan/share here~

I wonder if these essays will be included in the upcoming essay book O:

@kyoy: It's a half page of New Type. I have one issue back at home. It's quite nice as they've illustrated it as well. But still, it's only half a page each time so unless you're either very rich as a Maaya fan or are quite into anime I'm not sure how much it'd be worth it to track them down. Unless the scans are for free, as deltafour says.

I was thinking of buying them for scanning and then sell to anyone who'd be interested lol /cheap What issue do you have, dillpops?

I don't know if it's worth it to buy the whole magazine just for a half-page essay (unless of course you're interested in the content on the other pages). Most scans are freely (albeit illegally) available online with a bit of Googling. I've found most except for a couple from 2008 -- August and September, I think. I might pick up a used copy from Rakuten if I absolutely can't find them anywhere else.

Fortunately Newtype's popularity makes it rather easy to find; Maaya's other serial columns, such as 坂本真綾のま、いいんじゃない? (entry #1 here), which appeared in 11 issues of HMV's free "music master" publication, seem to be nonexistent on the interwebs.

Ohhhh that's good then! /o/ If there's an issue that can't be found and I can afford to spend on it, I really don't mind purchasing one~ Since dillpops mentioned it, I am also curious to see what the column looks like. I bought a Newtype before because of anime so owning a copy isn't really a bother for me or anything like that. Maaya's column is more like a bonus. If majority of the issues' content don't interest, I know several people who would gladly take it off my hands. Thanks for the info, but I wouldn't buy sth unnecessarily or without putting enough thought into it so don't worry~ :)

There are also random hobby stores/local cons here that sell old issues of Japanese magazines including Newtype, maybe by some random chance they have the missing issues? I can keep my eyes open although I wouldn't know what issues to look out for.

I have the issue where she's talking about going on a world food tour XD

Here are the issues I can't seem to find anywhere: July 2008 (found the scans in a torrent, but they're missing the page with Maaya's essay -- what are the odds?), August 2008, September 2008, and December 2009. I don't know when I'm going to have time to translate them, so there's no rush to get scans.
