English-lyric covers (Looking for vocalists!)

Post by nijibug »

UPDATE: Instead of looking for soloists, I'm entertaining the idea of turning this into a collaborative chorus project. (Yes, I was inspired by the Chinese fans' Spica tribute for Maaya's 30th birthday! Here it is on youtube if you haven't watched it yet; your life will be richer for having heard it.)

So if you are either a vocalist, instrumentalist, or work with music in some way, and have the interest and spare time, please drop me a line!

(original post down here)
I like to re-write the words of Maaya's songs in English so that they can be sung to the original tune, but I haven't got the voice/range to cover them.

Examples of work I have done include...

Yubiwa/Ring (Escaflowne)
Youtube link (demo): www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo-oR-H4p5Q

Utsukushii Hito (Kentoushi Fune Saigen)
Youtube link (lyrics only): www.youtube.com/watch?v=14tDEOnKVEw

Hikari no Naka e/Into the Light (Escaflowne)
Youtube link (demo): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyq2MoQa93o
(updated)

I'm looking for singers willing to provide vocals for these English re-writes and possible future collaborations. I'm looking more for range than timbre, but if by chance you are dillpops and sound exactly like Maaya, I would be more than delighted. :'D

:exclamation: I nearly forgot to mention this, but be able to record yourself. You don't need a studio or anything fancy. I just use a regular old podcast mic that connects via USB, my laptop, and a quiet room. So, if you have a decent webcam mic or karaoke mic... whatever works! And I'll gladly mix/edit the tracks, unless you have better programs/equipment. ♥

Naturally, this is just done for the fun of it and I won't be able to pay you, but if you're interested, I can be reached here, of course, as well as the following places:

My youtube channel (see signature)
My blog (see signature)
And my deviantART and LiveJournal accounts, where I am also 'nijibug'

This is really nice work.
I usually don't like this kind of stuff, but this is really nice work indeed.

I tried Hikari no nake de, I think there is some miss in some steps but this is globally a perfect ;)

Thank you! That means a lot coming from an amazing musician like you.

Hikari is one of my earliest transliterations. I think I would need to edit it quite a bit before asking someone to record it :'D

Too late ;p

Here is what I did. Not perfect, because first of all I'm not, and because I'm a bit sick with the cold weather right now in France.

Thank you anyway to have remind me this song is so beautiful.

I just read the entire Newbie Marathon thread, looking for some common inclinations in terms of fav Maaya songs :]

"Yubiwa" definitely came out first
"Yakusoku wa Iranai", "Gravity", and "Hemisphere" turned up a lot
I was pleasantly surprised to see a lesser-known track, "Birds" make multiple appearances too

(To me "Hemisphere" seems like another song that, like "Utsukushii Hito", presents a tremendous vocal challenge.)

But Escaflowne songs remain fan favorites.

What are everyone's thoughts of potentially working on an Escaflowne medley? :]

There's no deadline - I'm way too busy with school right now, truth be told. But I believe it's an idea worth tossing around so, in the future (maybe the summer?), when a lot of us might have time, we can work on something like this together :D
