what.. I was about to flip the table at the end of the movie, not being able to understand anything at all. XD
Of course, I only understand the video for what it is =). I couldn't make up anything else other than from what I saw xD.

Buddy instrumental is incredible! It's not that the singing wasn't good, it's just that it's wonderful that you can hear all the the little details in the music for a change.

Perhaps that was the reason why she placed it inside the album, she knows everyone else would love the instrumental version too.

You Dirron, I accept you as the new generation. When did you firstly met Maaya, and what's is your first impression and song that comes along with it?

One does not simply like "the instrumental ver." and gets away with it. Share some more XD

In my case I like Buddy, besides I listen to soundtrack music all the time, so I love Instrumental versions. But I prefer Okaerinasai.

lol
this is suppose to be the all-time rank thread, and not current rank..
also not discussing about memories or impression.
so i shall remove a few post.

just kidding. :P
but really... be more close to the topic itself, considering why u place this song at no.1, why it has to be at no.2 etc..
and if ur rank change significantly after 2-3 weeks it's certainly not an all-time rank. at least if u can't travel memories too distance and compare ur feelings towards all the songs, try to at least narrow the gap to.. say, the last 1-2 years or the last 3-5 years or so. I bet that should be hard too

After listening to Maaya for good 7 years, this is what the list looks like for me:

10. Utsukushii Hito
9. Another Grey Day in the Big Blue World
8. Yubiwa
7. Rule ~ Asenai Hibi
6. Koucha
5. Kimidori
4. Mahiru ga Yuki
3. Feel Myself
2. Sono Mama de Ii n da
1. Light of Love

I can't tell you why I love those songs, I just... can't. But as you can see they're not so popular. Only 3 (or maybe 4) of them Maaya sang live.

Your list are kinda close to what i meant as all-time list :D
i DO agree with some of ur top songs, especially light of love (i placed it at 5th)
and sono mama de iinda.. a peaceful song,.. feel my self, that well-builded and long song.. once i heard this song all day
i like koucha and mahiru ga yuki much more before, but now they dropped to 20-30's
i should've put rule ~iro asenai hibi in my top 20. Maybe next time when i revise the list again.. XD

I will try to explain what amazes me in Light of Love. It's a quite complicated song in harmonics and melody, and quite long too (7:54). As many Yoko Kanno compositions it doesn't use a standard verse-chorus song structure. Instead it has a two-part structure which geniously plays on contrasts. And contrasts, imo, is what makes Music beautiful.
The whole first part is filled with almost tragic sadness and melancholy with the exception of "twinkle, twinkle" part which leaves a feeling of optimism. Maaya's voice is beautiful and has that echo which leaves an impression that she is singing at a great distance in a vast open space. You will hear this sad but gentle melody several times giving you time to become fond of it as it becomes more "intense" with a help of beautifully aranged instruments. But nobody can foresee when the second part is coming... It starts with a choir singing a TREMENDOUSLY powerful and ingenious chord progression and you can hear a percussion/rhythm for a first time in this song. At this point the already sad song becomes unbearably tragic, and just when you feel that all hope is gone the choir goes from MINOR to MAJOR and suddenly you feel like the chains wrapped around your heart are broken. The music goes into such rhythmic and heavenly flow that makes you want to spread your arms and run towards the sunset. The melody which Maaya sings in the second part is just... unearthly.

Well, I probably missed the point of the song but it is music that attracts me in a song, not words.

well.......
u sum up what i have in mind.. :D
i think what comes up in my mind in that part where those back vocals meet maaya's vocal is none other than the title itself.. "light of love".. it saved her, and brought her flying high above the clouds.. as the angels reach their hands towards her. fantastic. it brings people to the state of emotionally, beautifully overwhelmed. even almost spiritually..

Light of Love is an amazing song. You're right about the end bringing everything home, it really is like the light of love is descending from above *_*

Would love Maaya to have a concert with a full orchestra, so many of her songs would be awesome with the full range of instruments. The low quality audio from the Yoko Kanno concert made me want more!!

For some reason I recently decided to compile my absolute favorite Maaya songs. These are songs that really resonate with me and I can't explain why. I just adore them.

In no particular order:
- Remedy
- Makiba Alice!
- birds
- Kazamidori
- Cloud 9
- Kimidori
- Mameshiba
- tune the rainbow
- Sayonara Santa
- Yucca
- Hashiru
- Rule~iro asenai hibi
- Kaze ga Fuku Hi

And there are of course many others that I like, including the first Maaya song I ever heard [Platina] but those are the ones that I identify with.
