Maaya's Discography with sells number

Post by kirei_lanford »

I thought i've seen one site in the past that has this complete list with numbers..... does anyone here archive a certain page or actually own a page that has it?

Just wanna see the up and down of maaya in japan music industry that of course, though not absolute, relate with public acceptance. Also, the period post-SA (we know SA was huge).. and the decline after that (we know YL was not a favorite for many of maaya's fans) and current condition (i believe maaya's gaining more popularity right now) :D

i think it will be interesting to get a view towards this one.
i know.... i can get first week numbers if the singles/albums were on top 30 oricon chart. ill try collect them, but if the number go down to below top 30 i don't know how to get it.

ridiculous how mameshiba sold so low with such excellent songs (mameshiba, kuuki to hoshi). Arjuna was such unpopular anime, heh?

you know,..... i think if maaya re-release the old singles it's going to be cool, since more people know maaya right now..
lots of artists did that, anyway.

like, for instance, maaya named the anniversary concert as "gift", which come from one of her single that sold soo low that no number record is available. I've searched in wikipedia and generasia. My guess that it didn't even enter oricon (top 100). Thus, no number.

clamp detective was even more unpopular >_

I started to believe she and her team has tried all possibilities, and things had become quite stable right now.. well that's how the world works. Like for example, Oasis fans.. will always be Oasis fans, no matter how good or bad the music is.. or Pink Floyd, or the Beatles.

There is however, always room for improvement in the humanity department, where the music get close with the fans, that creates a healthy bond between them.. something deep and personal that we can share with each other.

Like that wish we had in our heart to go spend all of our money at her concert, but we still could not afford that plane ticket to Japan, and hope that she will do some small scale concert over at our country for a once-in-a-lifetime event + vacation sort of thing (like visiting places in a certain country, at the same time doing a live small concert, with good eq's and good local m.c.) or even collaboration with indie groups that fancy the Japanese culture and music alike.

As usual, sorry for getting off topic, kinda in the mood for underground indie music :3

I dunno... i just thinking something so good as mameshiba didn't deserve that low figure.
We know that mameshiba is one of fans favorite. So the low number in the past was hard to explain.

I imagine in the past maaya had only small number of followers (i use the word "follower" not "fan"). The bigger portion of her sales were the anime fans that maaya provide the ost (or/and seiyuu) for. It can explain why debut single Yakusoku wa Iranai sold so high but song like Mameshiba, which i can't even see as a mediocre maaya song (you guys know how brilliant it is), sold as if it's one of her weakest.

Okay Yakusoku wa iranai was a brilliant debut single. But it is still.... a debut single. It's the factor of Escaflowne, i think.

In addition, now i see maaya as a different artist than before. Her management made her look different. Looking at her current pvs, it looks as if they are pushing really hard commercially, altering maaya's image from once, anime-tied specialist to more like a pop act. Sure, i believe she would never want to free herself from anime. Neither do us. :P

It's just the proportion is undergoing a change.

Well, this is just my opinion. I felt that in every new pvs released she looks cuter and cuter, fan service, sure you know what i mean. While the old pvs, although have low budgets, are focusing more on the concept, i think....
And now, probably non-anime fans are already has this much bigger chunk of proportion, compared to the previous. So, it's a perfect moment, imo, to re-release singles (or economy box-set or something :P ). Let the new fans know that she has so many good songs in the past. Best album alone can't do justice.

I agree with Kirei-Lanford, I would be great if maaya releases a single box, It would be for her 20th Anniversary, BUT NOT A LIMITED RELEASE Dx (hate that) The singles have instrumental and remix versions that the single collection albums doesn´t, also the B-sides like, High Touch, Mitsubachi to Kagakusha, Praline, and so on. It would sold well too :D It would be a "Classic Collection Box" including singles from Hotchpotch and "Young Times Collection Box" with the Nikopachi ones, from Loop to today singles, another box, or just a big box xDD
Well, if case there would be a Limted Edition, it would contain a special DVD with the single TV Commercials or Making of of that single, or a special photobook with unreleased photos of the single cover art, like the 0331 photobook :D Or a DVD with PVs all in one maybe.

What part of the pv has a connection with maaya selling well? Pv with story...? If that's what you mean, japan got a lot of talents. I've said in another thread that maaya should give the pv making to Kouki Tange. He obviously knows what he's doing. But i bet the price tag must be high XD.

I've just realize something. My theory about "shift of old single buyers coming from mostly corresponding anime title watchers to current single buyers with 'bigger proportion' of maaya followers/pop music fan" has some flaws. The fact that maaya singles today still fluctuate heavily from 90k (triangler) to 14k (saigo no kajitsu) also mean Macross Frontier is much much bigger title than Kurogane no Linebarrel --> which is pretty damn obvious :P and this mean things aren't changing that much. Of course, though debatable, Triangler/Kotomichi was a stronger pair than Saigo no Kajitsu/Mitsubachi to Kagakusha too (i actually love MTK :P )

But that's also the reason why re-releasing old singles individually won't do any good too, since arjuna fans won't increase in time (if not decreasing). Box set release like what countdown65 said is a better option. I'd buy it, definitely.. Yet i think the ones that should be re-released were the first 8 singles only. Hemisphere and above singles sales were quite understandable. 15k to 30k is the typical sales of maaya's singles. Anything bigger than that means that the tie-in are major titles. Rahxephon was huge by the time it's still aired, though receive some critic that it was a copy cat of Eva :P . Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle was a long running and who doesn't know Clamp? and Macross is an international title.

Said this though i still think Purachina should have been a bigger hit knowing it's one of the all-time favorite anime fans osts (and it's connected to CCS). Kiseki no Umi was a bigger hit back then. It sure got so many expose from the Record of Lodoss War. I mean, i know it's an unique song.. something that can't be repeated today (like what Utsukushii Hito seem has been doing), but still it wouldn't have done so well without so many expose from the tied anime. Maybe it's high because of word of mouth. Well, i'm not a maaya fan when it's aired back then so,... just guessing. :D

And the box set price.. Since it's only 8 singles so... Y 6000 (discount price) ?? XD

Albums, on the other side, are much more steady.. Original titles with 40k to 50k and best compilations with 60k to 70k.

It would be great if maaya sings all her B-sides in a concert. /o/ Arjuna is awesome, a great and a few ecological anime, this fan made a guitar version of Mameshiba, check it out: I mixed this version with the vocals, and it is so powerful xDDD

For me it all changed with Magic Number. Her whole presentation became different. Don't know if it got something to do with Flying Dog. All of a sudden I could not watch some videos on YT anymore, and others got removed. We also started to get those dead serious proportioned pieces of info from her.
There is a more cordial way to interact. When I play a videogame, I don't want to get reminded that I play one in the first place. I want to get drawn into the world. Same with music.
There is nothing more important than the soul behind the song. Just selling a product does not work.

Looks like her last singles and the album sold a bit worse than the previous ones.
Anyway, nice job on the statistics.

It's a pity that Triangler is her most sold piece...
Not that's good, and other stuff deserve better.
 Life is on Maayas, and the posts are hope and promise...

That's what i'm sayin'
It's macross factor, I think.
Actually what made me rather dislike triangler is that intro which always remind me to hagaren no rekinjutsushi ost from porno gravity lol.
