I dunno - I get this incredibly weird vibe from Maaya even being there. It's like they were trying to be overprotective or something. (Of course this is just a gut reaction... No proof)

Yeah, I feel that too. Like they over-estimated the need for security. But then again, some say it wasn't really known how popular she would be in the US.

Actually, the security issue isn't surprising. Apparently Sakamoto had some problems with a stalker in Japan recently and she's not allowed to say much right now without going through her agent and/or manager. If memory serves correct, IDS had planned a tour for fanclub members to attend AX as well, so it was probably an extension of the expected presence of Japanese fans.
